Placemakers* Gold Coast offers expertise on the role culture plays in defining our City.
Visioning & Delivering Tailored Experiences Connected To Place
We employ a collaborative approach to visioning and delivering unique tailored cultural experiences for our partners. For us, it’s not a one-size-fits all model or framework. We assess each project for its own merit and let the place and the community lead and inform the creative direction. This collaborative process has resulted in large-scale temporary installations, to more ephemeral one-off experiences.
Cultural Project Management
We have the capability and capacity to project manage short or longer-term cultural place activations. We have a strong track-record in overseeing all aspects of the cultural delivery of projects including risk, pedestrian, stakeholder and site management. Whilst our preference is to be there from the beginning of a project, we’re also flexible enough to join a project at any stage of the process and assist with delivery.
Community Engagement & Consultation
We place great value in community consultation and engagement when developing a project. We have demonstrated success connecting clients to community and finding common values to deliver meaningful and mutually beneficial outcomes for our partners and the wider community.
We have a strong track record of building reputation through successful arts and culture-led experiences.
Hotelling (2016 & 2017)
In 2016 and 2017, Placemakers presented an ambitious and bold project titled “Hotelling”. The cultural event added a new dimension to the city’s holiday experience.
In partnership with QT Hotel in 2016 and Peppers Soul in 2017, this immersive arts experience was a cultural tourism initiative of the City of Gold Coast, curated by one of Australia’s creative leaders and award-winning international David Pledger.
Hotelling added an alluring new layer to the Gold Coast’s cultural calendar.
We hope you enjoy the Hotelling experience in the clips below.
OFFERING a genuine and authentic connection to place.
2018 Commonwealth Games – Athletes Welcome
As part of the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Bleach* was engaged to present a work as part of the welcoming ceremony for all athletes into the Games Village. This presentation was to be representative of our cultural heritage and local community and place. This enabled our local artists to be placed on the world stage in front of an international audience.
This work was seen by representing Commonwealth athletes residing in the Games Village in Southport along with a live and replayed broadcast locally, nationally and internationally.
place activation and community engagement.
The Kitchens – Robina Town Centre
In November 2016 Placemakers* partnered with Robina Town Centre to officially open the impressive $160-million restaurant precinct, The Kitchens. Following the official opening, we presented an ongoing year round live music program to entertain diners, activate the space and engage locals with the newly branded precinct as a community epicentre. This presented an opportunity to support and invest in local upcoming artists like Amy Shark, Ella Fence and The Ruiins allowing them an alternative venue to present their work in place.
We offer a range of culture-led services to town planners, developers, and government on the role culture plays in defining a city.
Jewel International Kite Festival
In September 2018 Placemakers* Gold Coast were engaged by Yuhu Group Australia to develop a community engagement strategy with the key objective to thank locals for their support during the construction period of the Group’s $1B development project ‘Jewel’ in Broadbeach.
The centerpiece of the engagement strategy was the creation and delivery of a kite festival in place, connected to culture and building a strong sense community.
The Jewel International Kite Festival was an invitation to the community to experience and engage with the wonders of The Jewel building and the beautiful landscape of Broadbeach. As a celebration for the entire city to enjoy, the free event for the local community served as a gift to the City presented by Placemakers* Gold Coast and Yuhu Group Australia.
Key outcomes from this engagement were:
- 92.7% attendance rate for 2016 & 2017
- Total Media Reach of 7.9 million
- 41 artists and creatives employed, 22 of whom were from the Gold Coast
