JOINING FORCES TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Partnership with Ozharvest and Rosies
THREE LOCAL ‘NOT FOR PROFITS’ CAME TOGETHER TO SUPPORT GOLD COAST HOMELESS WITH FOOD, FRIENDS AND LIVE MUSIC!
The team at Placemakers* were very excited to be approached by Rosies and OzHarvest to support their regular community event for the first time. The partnership became an opportunity to present the very first of the “Goldie delivers” program, in this instance taking live music into the community. Together the three local not-for-profits gathered at Baden Powell Park in Southport to support the homeless, delivering a night of heart-warming food and live music, OzHarvest, Rosies and Placemakers* Gold Coast – along with Paradox Roasters, providing much needed community connection for over 30 displaced locals.
The newly refurbished caravan and Placemakers* team member “Goldie” supported the two partners at the outdoor venue through the delivery of 90-minutes of original music by Gold Coast Musician of the Year, Dennnis.
We strongly believe that the Arts can provide, in this case live music, enhanced wellbeing, especially when paired with the tremendous existing ground support offered by Rosies and OzHarvest to assist those in need within our community.
This is just one way we hope to continue to support our community with our “Goldie delivers” program creating culture-led experiences in place across the City.
Established in 2013, OzHarvest Gold Coast delivers rescued food to more than 60 charities, churches, community centres and schools across the Gold Coast. In 2017 they celebrated the delivery of their 3 millionth meal. As part of a long-term solution to reducing food insecurity amongst individuals their NEST program provides nutritional education and basic cooking skills to those who may face food insecurity. In 2017 their Nourish program was launched to provide a pathway to employment, aimed at vulnerable youth between the ages of 16 – 25 years. The Nourish program covers a large range of skills including basic cooking skills, nutrition, food safety, kitchen hygiene, communication skills, team work skills, resume writing and surviving job interviews, all of this leading to a nationally recognised qualification in the hospitality industry. OzHarvest Gold Coast regularly engages the community in issues of food waste and food security at events such as our national Think.Eat.Save event, movie nights, community, school, and corporate engagements. The team is driven by our belief that good food should not be wasted while hunger exists in our community.
Rosies is a popular and very well-known charity which has been assisting the homeless and people going through the court system for over 30 years. Volunteers operate street vans, visit adult and youth prisons and provide support to the displaced. Rosies reaches out to those most abandoned, to be present with them, offering them experiences of community and belonging.
